The Nexus One Was Google’s Dream. The Carriers Were Freddy Krueger.
Apparently the original buzz on Google's Nexus One phone that had pegged it as a free, ad-supported phone was pretty close to the truth. Problem was, the telcos knew that it would threaten their market dominance. Hence, N1 was launched online only, with no carrier cooperation to speak of. End of marketing story, understandably. Until someone develops a mobile network that's open to all hardware as the Web is today we're hosed.
